The department of dairy and food science has one of the oldest dairy processing facilities of its kind in Africa. The Guildford Dairy that was established in 1973 has been utilized to provide our graduates with a first-hand practical training opportunity that has been unparalleled in the region. Our alumni that currently occupy top echelons in the dairy and food industry in Kenya is a testament to this. In addition, the department hoses the food pilot plant. This facility is equipped with a multi-functional universal kitchen, machine for use in production of meat, vegetable, cereals and fruit and other product development's initiatives.

The department also has two separate Laboratories (Food Chemistry lab and the Food Microbiology labs). These labs have basic equipment to facilitate undergraduate studies in food science and with collaboration with other relevant departments in the University, research organizations, even Masters and PhD students are able to do most of their research work by harnessing tapping into these facilities. The department always emphasizes the need for Researchers to continue to equip the laboratories through purchase of relevant advanced equipment as part of the research funding.
